What does this word mean?

Well when I was a child growing up in Italy there was no need to use the word Organic. The farms ware run by the entire family members and the fertilizer used was mostly vegetable compost, and horse and cow manure (compost). Fertilizers, I don’t remember seeing any, probably because ware not used much. Probably everything that grow out their  farm in those days was organic, organic, organic. and this word did not needed to be mentioned, It was automatically organic…

Cosa significa questa parola?

Beh, quando ero un bambino che cresceva in Italia non c'era bisogno di usare la parola Organic. Le fattorie gestite da tutti i membri della famiglia e il fertilizzante utilizzato erano per lo più composti vegetali e letame di mucche e cavalli (compost). Fertilizzanti, non ricordo di averli visti, probabilmente perché gli articoli non sono stati usati molto. Probabilmente tutto ciò che coltivava la loro fattoria in quei giorni era organico, organico, organico. e questa parola non aveva bisogno di essere menzionata, era automaticamente organica ...

In those days I lived in a city in central Italy and in the summer my family and I would go to visit my grand parents that had a farm. I learned that the smelly “stuff” was then placed next to the grape vine, olive and fruit trees and the various  vegetables. My grand father used to tell me that the “smelly stuff”  was compost manure, would make the plants strong and and make fruit. This was the ways humans had done for thousands  years  in order to grow farm product.

Well time passed I grow up and my grand parents are gone now and I stopped going to the farm. Few years ago I went to a farm. As soon I got out of the car I seen an incredible amount of of filled plastic bags stoked up on one and other and I realize when I got closer that was fertilizer. The smell attacked my throat in such an unpleasant way that I had to move away very quickly. I realized that was not organic fertilizer, bus some kind of petroleum based chemical fertilizer. When I asked the farmer I also found out that this was the only fertilizer that he used in his farm.

In quei giorni vivevo in una città dell'Italia centrale e in estate la mia famiglia e io andavamo a visitare i miei nonni che avevano una fattoria. Ho appreso che la "roba" puzzolente veniva poi collocata accanto alla vite, agli ulivi, agli alberi da frutta e alle varie verdure. Mio nonno mi diceva che la "roba puzzolente" era un letame di compost, avrebbe reso le piante forti e fruttato. Questo era il modo in cui l'uomo aveva fatto migliaia di anni per coltivare prodotti agricoli.

È passato molto tempo, io cresciuto e i miei nonni se ne sono andati e ho smesso di andare alla fattoria. Pochi anni fa sono andato in una fattoria. Non appena sono uscito dalla macchina, ho visto un'incredibile quantità di sacchetti di plastica pieni di energia che si gonfiavano sull'uno e sull'altro e mi rendo conto che quando mi sono avvicinato era il fertilizzante. L'odore mi ha attaccato alla gola in un modo così sgradevole che ho dovuto allontanarmi molto velocemente. Mi sono reso conto che non era un fertilizzante organico, ma un qualche tipo di fertilizzante chimico a base di petrolio. Quando ho chiesto al contadino ho anche scoperto che questo era l'unico fertilizzante che ha usato nella sua fattoria.

Well I don’t want to eat a products that are grown with chemicals and pesticides, so one day I bought a bag of carrots from the local supermarket and a other bag at the natural food store of organic carrots. At home I made my own carrot juice with each bag separately. I had the two glasses of carrot juice and ask the other members of my family to have a sip from each glass and tell me which one they prefer. They all agreed that the organic one was the best of the two.

I only by organic carrots now and any other type of fruit and vegetables that I can find organic, including organic whole grains, organic beans and Organic anything I can put my hands on.

Beh, non voglio mangiare un prodotto che viene coltivato con prodotti chimici e pesticidi, così un giorno ho comprato un sacchetto di carote dal supermercato locale e un'altra borsa nel negozio di alimenti naturali di carote biologiche. A casa ho preparato il mio succo di carota con ogni busta separatamente. Ho preso i due bicchieri di succo di carota e chiedo agli altri membri della mia famiglia di bere un sorso da ogni bicchiere e di dirmi quale preferiscono. Concordavano tutti sul fatto che quello organico era il migliore dei due.

Sono solo con le carote biologiche ora e con qualsiasi altro tipo di frutta e verdura che posso trovare biologico, compresi i cereali integrali biologici, i fagioli biologici e tutto ciò che posso mettere sulle mie mani.
